UNEB to Begin Appeals Hearings for Withheld Exam Results

The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) will commence the adjudication process for withheld school results on Monday.

The initial focus of the board’s Examinations Security Committee will be on the Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE), which have not yet been released due to suspicions of malpractice.

This information was disclosed by Prof. Celestino Obua, the Chairperson of the Uganda National Examinations Board, during the recent release of Uganda Certificate of Education Exams earlier this week.

“The hearing of cases involving suspected malpractices in the 2023 examinations will begin on February 19th, starting with the PLE cases. Invitations are being extended to affected candidates through the District Education Officers,” Obua stated.

While refraining from identifying specific schools or candidates involved, he emphasized that those unable to substantiate their cases before the tribunal risk having their results annulled, necessitating a re-sit of the PLE.

A total of 749,254 pupils sat for the Primary Leaving Examinations. Individuals unable to defend their results will be required to retake the PLE exams by the end of this year.

Pupils who successfully justify their results before the committee will receive clearance to progress to Senior One, with classes scheduled to commence on Monday.
