Description

The naming of Uganda Martyrs’ S.S Namugongo was inspired by the martyrdom of the Uganda Martyrs in 1886, although it is a matter of debate whether the school would have been founded if they had not been killed. However, the founders were guided by martyrdom 85 years later when naming the school.

Over the last 54 years, the impact of the martyrs has been enduring, as evidenced by their mention in the school anthem and the daily invocation of their intercession and blessings upon the school community.

The school was established by Late Msgr. Lawrence Mbwega, the parish priest at the time, who credited three individuals – Jeremiah Munyigwa (deceased), Hellen Namazzi, and Joseph Mugerwa – as instrumental in its founding. These three individuals rallied the parents of Namugongo Catholic Parish, and in 1967, they began a modest project that has grown exponentially over the past fifty years.

Experience an exceptional academic and spiritual journey in a serene environment, imbued with a rich history of martyrdom and perseverance.
