Kasanda School Headteacher Arrested for Defiling his Student

In Kassanda District, a school Headteacher is currently being held by the police on charges related to sexual assault.

According to SP Racheal Kawala, the Wamala Regional Police Spokesperson, the accused individual allegedly committed the offense against a former student of Brain Star Secondary School, who is 17 years old. The incident is said to have occurred in Wakayiba Trading Centre, located in Kalwana Sub County, Kassanda District.

The preliminary investigation suggests that the victim left school following the alleged assault and subsequent pregnancy, which occurred in August 2023. The authorities were alerted to the situation on February 26, 2024, by concerned community members.

Upon visiting the victim’s residence, law enforcement officers found her heavily pregnant, leading to the opening of a case of aggravated defilement.

Following the investigation, the suspect was apprehended and is currently being held at Kassanda Central Police Station. The case will be reviewed by the Resident State Attorney for further legal guidance.

The incident is part of a broader trend highlighted in the recent Police Crime Annual Report, which documented a 6.2% increase in reported cases of aggravated defilement compared to the previous year. The Greater Masaka region reported the highest number of cases, followed by various areas within the Kampala Metropolitan region and Wamala region.

The report also reveals disturbing statistics regarding the perpetrators, including cases involving teachers, guardians, and individuals living with HIV.
